My name is H.C. Harvey. I live outside Plains, Georgia, and am a water well contractor by trade. I got hooked on llamas nine years ago at the National Fair in Perry, Georgia. As soon as I could get fencing and shelter in place, I purchased three llamas.
Soon I began to wonder what I would do with my new love other than watch them in the pasture. Searching the internet for information about llamas, I came across a picture of a llama pulling a cart. I was intrigued. Contacting some llama owners, I was directed to Ron Shinnick- known as the king of carting in the Southeast. Ron gave me a great deal of information concerning carting and soon I had a llama named Jimmy Buffett, trained by Ron, pulling a cart around Plains.
Carting is the best way to present llamas to the public as it shows their strength, stamina, intelligence and ability more than any other activity we do with llamas. I now have three cart llamas, Jimmy Buffett, SOL The Beat Goes On, and one I am training. Carting is the most rewarding experience I have found in the llama world. ~H.C.
